Since early February, the students of Dance I and Advanced Dance have been preparing fora dance concert, rehearsing every class period in preparation. This concert was named the “Ovation,” which means an enthusiastic show of appreciation.

The dance concert took place on Thursday, May 21st, showcasing the skills learned by the dance students throughout the year. Therewere dances ranging from hip-hop to contemporary. As well as three Flairs, who performed their competition solos.

The songs used for the dances were ‘A Million Ways to Live”. For the 4thperiod Dance I performance. “Rule the World”, used by Veronica Weathers for her solo piece. “Someone You Loved” for 5thperiod Dance I. “Pure Imagination” used for Sierra Morton’s solo. “Lovely” was used for 3rdperiod Adv. Dance. “Creep”, for Alexis Fletcher’s solo piece. And “Hip Hop Mix” for 2ndperiod Dance 2-4 and Adv. Dance.

This Dance Concert was a way to show parents all the dance skills their children had learned throughout the year. “I was satisfied,” said Sana Qadeer, a Dance I student. “I was proud.”

Dance is not only just a way to fulfill a PE or Fine Arts requirement. For some students, it may become a career. “We have a lot of units that it [dance] covers in just one year. You learn a lot in that class,” said AriaMakan, also a Dance I student.

“Before I just thought that dance was a cool thing to do. And it was fun,” said Sana, “But now I feel like I have more opportunities.”

Dance provides students with opportunities. It also helps them overcome fear of performing in front of people and builds confidence. After a month of practice, the dancers earned a most deserved ovation.
