Addressing Concerns in Times of Tribulation

President Joe Biden’s State of The Union Address

On March 1, President Joe Biden gave his first State of The Union Address, with the second lowest approval rating recorded.

Before Biden’s State of The Union Address, he had an approval rating of 39%. After the Address his approval rating has grown to 47%.

“This is an unusual bounce; it gets him back to where he was pre-Afghanistan,” Lee Miringoff said.

According to Caroline Vakil, reporter of The Hill, president approval ratings can improve after their State of The Union Address, but its uncommon for it to be by as much as Biden’s did.

“Presidents can sometimes get a bounce after a State of the Union, one of more than 4 points in an NPR poll has happened only six times since 1978,” Vakil said.

Along with his overall approval rating improving, his approval rating from the Democratic party has also improved.

“Biden is at 90% approval rating among Democrats, that’s better than the mid-70s he’s been getting,” Nathan Gonzales, the editor of Inside Elections said.

While his rates have gone up there is criticism, controversy and praise on the deliverance of his speech.

Some believe he did, and addressed exactly what was needed in his speech.

“That was a speech, he did exactly the things he needed to do,” Speechwriter David Litt said. “This is a moment when he is trying to remind a lot of Americans who voted for him and who approved of his job performance as recently as June or even September, why they supported him. I think he did that really effectively.”

On the other hand, others believe that his formatting and the issues he addressed weren’t cohesively put together or well thought out.

“The intro on Ukraine worked well enough, but boy did he move on quickly, and not to anything particularly compelling or new. As a technical matter, the speech felt strung together and disjointed, with cram-ins and jumpy transitions,” Speechwriter Noel Rob said. “The substance amounted to a dry list of policy points, like it was geared toward lawmakers in the room rather than people at home.”

With coming trials and tribulations, only time will tell how well the president’s actions and efforts will take effect.
