24-6A UIL Academic Meet
Introducing your 24-6A UIL Academic Champions, Clear Lake High School! The 24-6A UIL Academic meet was held Friday and Saturday and Lake coaches and competitors stepped it up!
Competitors compete in a wide variety of contests, from literature to math, and our representatives truly lead the way, placing in almost every competition and walking away with the top honor, District Champions.
1st through 3rd all advance to Region, with 4th through 6th serving as alternates. Congratulations goes out to the following:
- Accounting, led by Chanda Eager: Cynthia Huang (3rd), Sydney Ford (4th), Asya Flores (5th), and Chanel Rodriguez (6th); 1st place overall team (team advances to Region)
- Calculator Applications, led by Dr. Scott Berger: Etienne Reine (3rd), and Aaron Rubin (5th); 2nd place team overall
- Current Issues & Events, led by Erica Smith: Israel Patino (3rd), and Matias Martin (5th)
- Copy Editing, led by Paula Smith: Alexa Ward (4th)
- Computer Science, led by Kortney Field: Luke Wang (5th)
- Editorial Writing, led by Paula Smith: Alexa Ward (1st), and Sam Ellis (3rd)
- Feature Writing, led by Paula Smith: Kevin Balke (3rd), and Madisen Tucker (5th)
- Headline Writing, led by Paula Smith: Alexa Ward (1st), Amber Havard (3rd), and Madisen Tucker (5th)
- Lincoln Douglas Debate, led by Ryan Nassif: Ibraheim Maudood (2nd), and Antonio Arguelles (5th)
- Literary Criticism, led by Amandelin Valentine: Brooklyn Valentine (6th); 2nd place team overall
- Mathematics, led by Dr. Scott Berger: Richard Wang (2nd), and Cody Wang (3rd); 2nd place team overall
- Number Sense, led by Dr. Scott Berger: Cody Wang (2nd), Gary Sun (3rd), and Evan Yu (4th); 1st place team overall (team advances to Region)
- News Writing, led by Paula Smith: Madisen Tucker (2nd)
- Persuasive Speaking, led by Ryan Nassif: Amelia Weiss (6th)
- Poetry Interpretation, led by Ryan Nassif: Rifa Momin (3rd)
- Ready Writing, led by Erica Smith: Divya Valipe (3rd)
- Science, led by Dr. Stoyan Karabunarliev: Richard Wang (1st overall individual and top Physics and top Chemistry score); 2nd place team overall
- Social Studies, led by Audrey Rogers: Dantes Martinez (1st), Charles Webb (6th); 1st place overall team (team advances to Region)
- Spelling and Vocabulary, led by Erin James: Ashwini Patil (1st)
- We also received 1st place overall for Journalism!
