On Aug. 30, the Clear Lake Falcon’s football team played the Angleton Wildcats in an exciting start to the new football season. It took place at Veterans memorial stadium in League City.
The Falcons have not beat angleton since 1994! This created a heavy atmosphere with intensity throughout the crowd.
“I think we are going to win this one,” Junior Abraham Merland said.
The Falcon student section was packed with people excited to be at the first football game of the 2024 season, with each student dressed for the whiteout theme. This year’s student section leader was senior TJ Bass, and he had total control of getting the students hyped and loud.
“I love coming to the student section for the crowd and the vibes,” Sophomore Rhys Zamarripa said.
The game started with an Angleton field goal. Then, the next quarter the Wildcats added a touchdown and a successful 2-point conversion, making the score 11-0.
The Falcons finally broke through on offense, as running back Calab Benjamin ran it 45 yards for a touchdown, and the kicker Juan Posso knocked in the extra point making the score 11-7. Then before halftime the Falcons made it to field goal range, allowing Posso to kick a field goal that made it 11-10 Angleton at halftime.
The third quarter was uneventful, as neither team was able to score. Halfway through the fourth quarter the Wildcats added another TD on the ground, but the unsuccessful 2-point conversion left the score at 17-10-keeping the Falcons in striking distance as they could now tie the game with a TD and extra point.
The Falcons weren’t able to capitalize, and a late TD closed the door on Lake’s chances, giving Angleton the 24-10 victory.
Despite the loss, the Falcons showed some promising strength on the ground, rushing for 179 yards and a touchdown.
We are excited to kick the year off with a great game and a packed student crowd to support our Falcons.
