Football season comes each year with the hopes of a successful season. Athletes train each afternoon, and all this effort is put to work when they run into the field. Yet none of it could be done without the athletic trainers, who ensure that everyone is healthy. From provide ice for pain to making sure the athletes are hydrated; the trainers play an integral role in making the athletic season a success.
The Athletic Training program is led by students, and their participation is important since they do the bulk of the work. Being part of the program takes a lot of responsibility. Students must be on their best behavior, their grades must be above passing, and they must commit a lot of their time. They need to be present in practice and in games home or away. “There’s an application process we have tryouts in the spring and then we have a ranking system when we grade your attendance” Head athletic trainer Chris Gleeson said. “We have a written test and then we have a performance test.”
They help in many sports, from football, cross country, softball, water polo, golf, and tennis. “I have to do JV football and once that season is over than the coaches figures out when they need to place us for a different sport that may need trainers,” Junior Nazirah Limon said.
There are many benefits to being a student athletic trainer, from being able to see live sports to learning helpful heath techniques. “We help the players overall for them to be able to play the best they can,” Freshman Maria Hernandez said. These students learn to lead, support and efficient quick ways to deal with issues.
Sports bring people together, from a tight knit team, to a loyal following they depend on our faith in each other. The teacher athletic trainers have built a team of dedicated, loyal, and helpful students who are giving their all to ensure the health of the student athletes.
