Homecoming is one of the most iconic experiences in any American student’s life.
When you first think of homecoming, what immediately comes to mind is the football games and dance, but not every student follows that classic plan. Whether they decide to just stay home, or make other plans with friends, homecoming brings different memories for all.
With homecoming happening earlier than in past years, beginning on Sept. 20, students have been preparing since the beginning of the school year.
“My biggest plans for Homecoming would probably be getting my senior mum,” Senior Rio Kato said, ” I already ordered one and it’s going to be yellow and white. I’m probably going to wear senior overalls with it. I’ve already started making those too.”
While Kato is preparing for gameday festivities, she has decided to skip the dance and spend time just with her friends.
“I went last year, but I didn’t think it was worth the ticket money” Kato said, “I’m going to a seaside restaurant so our pictures will look nicer than in the school commons.”
For others, it is their first time experiencing homecoming, creating an air of novelty and leaving room for surprises.
“I wasn’t expecting to get a date to go to homecoming but I’m so excited.” Camila Nogueira, a junior and foreign exchange student from Brazil said. “My friend invited me so we’re going as friends. He made the poster in Portuguese; it was so sweet. Since we’re going as friends, I think it’s going to be fun too.”
The students are without a doubt excited for Homecoming and all the festivities that come with it. The spirit week, parade, game and dance are only a few of the highlight’s homecoming week has to offer.
With such a big school you are bound to find a wide variety of plans for this special weekend. No matter the plans, lifelong memories are sure to be made.
