With every break from school comes a good amount of free time and plenty of opportunities to go out and have fun. One of the best activities to do during these breaks is, of course, watch movies at home and at the theater. Something that often stops people from doing this, though, is the fact that they just don’t know what’s out or where to watch it. So, to prevent that from holding you back, here’s a list of new and upcoming films to watch over this Thanksgiving break.
Eternity
Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner star in this film about a woman who has died and must decide who she wants to spend her eternal afterlife with: her first love, who was killed in war, or the man she spent the rest of her life with? Eternity will be released in theaters on November 26.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
The first of quite a few superhero movies on this list, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is probably the least good, but it is in no way bad. It’s a great re-introduction of these classic heroes and is especially great in the production design and visuals departments. It also has a great cast, with people like Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Julia Garner, and Natasha Lyonne. It was released in theaters on July 25 and became available to stream on Disney+ on November 5.
Frankenstein
This adaptation of the 1818 Mary Shelley novel of the same name was directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth. It’s been receiving pretty positive reviews and has gorgeous visuals. Frankenstein became available to stream on Netflix on November 7.
Good Boy
This film follows a dog who must come to the rescue when his owner is threatened by supernatural forces. The dog is very, very cute. Need I say more? Good Boy released in theaters on October 3 and will become available to stream on AMC+ and Shudder on November 21.
The Long Walk
In an alternate, dystopian 1970s, 50 boys participate in a competition which requires them to walk nonstop for an opportunity to win a life-changing prize. If you’ve read my review, you know I loved this movie and would recommend it to just about anyone, especially fans of dystopian and YA media. The Long Walk was released on September 12 and became available on VOD on October 21.
Predator: Badlands
Although this is a sequel to a long-running franchise, it’s very easy to understand and enjoy even if you haven’t seen any of the other films. Predator: Badlands is a top-notch sci-fi action film, and you’re almost guaranteed to like it if that sounds appealing to you. It was released in theaters on November 7.
Rental Family
Rental Family follows a struggling American actor in Tokyo who begins to work for a company which provides stand-in family members for strangers. It will be released in theaters on November 21.
The Running Man
In hopes of winning money to help his sick daughter, a man participates in a game show which requires him to flee from hunters who intend to kill him. The Running Man, the newest film from director Edgar Wright (who I personally love), stars Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, and many others. It was released in theaters on November 14.
Superman
If you know anything about superheroes, you already know who Superman is. Even if you haven’t watched a ton of superhero movies, or if you’re not a huge fan, this is an incredibly fun movie. It’s funny, sweet, action-packed, and uplifting. David Corenswet makes a great superman, Rachel Brosnahan is a perfect Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor is equally threatening and fun, and Skyler Gisondo makes Jimmy Olsen an unlikely hero. Everyone else in the cast adds a lot to the magic, as well. Superman was released in theaters on July 11 and is now available to stream on HBO Max.
Thunderbolts*
Thunderbolts* is one of the latest additions to the MCU, and it’s also one of the best to come in recent years. Even if you’re not super familiar with the MCU, it should be easy enough to follow if you do a bit of research beforehand, and it’s also very easy to connect to and enjoy thanks to its teamwork and mental-health-related themes. It has an all-star cast featuring Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Lewis Pullman (my personal favorite of the bunch). It was released in theaters on May 2 and is now available to stream on Disney+.
Wicked: For Good
2024’s Wicked was a worldwide phenomenon, so it’s no surprise that this year’s sequel is by far one of the most hyped up movies of 2025. If it’s anything like the first one, it should bring people together to laugh, cry, and enjoy a movie in a way that rarely happens for casual audiences these days. Wicked: For Good will be released in theaters on November 21.
Zootopia 2
It’s a sequel to Zootopia, which was and is an extremely beloved family film. It has a great cast and is a fantastic excuse to bring the whole family out for a day. Zootopia 2 will be released in theaters on November 26.
