Prom Prep

For the past four years, the 2023 class officers have been hosting fundraisers for their senior prom, and this year they have dedicated their time to plan and prepare a night in wonderland for the senior class.

While prom is an event that takes place at the end of the year for the senior class, the preparation process begins months in advance.

“It [planning prom] started, honestly, toward the end of junior year, where we kind of had to start thinking about what we wanted to do for raising money for prom, and then once we started this year, we had to start budgeting how much money was going to go to food, and what venue we wanted and decorations,” class officer Rifa Momin said.

Even though prom planning began far ahead of the actual date, many of the details of prom were worked out this school year.

“We’ve been fundraising [prom] all four years of being class officer, but the bulk of it has been done this year,” class officer Maddy Supan said. “We did the taste testing early on in the year, and then the same with the decorations.”

One of the biggest tasks officers have had is raising enough money in order to create the prom they envisioned.

“Raising money [is part of the process of planning prom] because that is the hardest part because it costs so much money,” Momin said. “But also deciding food, because you want a lot of people to enjoy the food, but food is expensive, and then also decorations because everyone’s not always happy with everything, but we can only try and do our best to make sure that it is a fun and enjoyable experience.”

While the process of planning prom is rewarding, it’s also been a lot of work for officers.

“[Planning] has been a little stressful at times, but it’s also been really fun because I get to work with my friends,” officer Maddy Supan said.

In the end, officers are just hoping to make a memorable and fun night that everyone will enjoy.

“I’m hoping that a lot of people attend and that they have a good time, and that they have a memorable time there because it is prom and I hope that everybody has a wonderful time,” Momin said.

Now, all that’s left for the class officers is to put the finishing touches on the prom.

“The biggest thing is just getting ticket sales where we want them and to finalize the decorations,” Supan said.

The class of 2023 will have their prom on April 22, at the San Luis resort in Galveston, from 7:30-11 p.m.
